springback, or don't
Its called a Springback. And oh my....does it. (And how!) After dinner at Tricia and Elsabe's it all of a sudden became a wonderful idea to go out to Rouge and continue the madness. A live band called Euphoria was playing (oddly) Sublime, Bill Withers, Bob Marley, and some original rap and dancehall. At Rouge I was introduced to a green, frothy substance called a Springback. A Springback is composed of peppermint liqueur (hence, the green bottom) and topped off with Amarulla. Amarulla is a South African plant liqueur with an interesting history. It has a simlar taste to Bailey's Irish Cream, though I think I am an Amarulla convert. The way it was supposedly discovered is that locals noticed elephants would eat the fruit off of this tree and appear drunk afterwards. So they got the idea. There is even a little picture of an elephant and the amarulla fruit on the front of the bottle. So a Springback tastes, as I can best describe it, like an Andes mint in liquid form. That's good stuff. What's not good stuff is 3 glasses of wine, 3 fingers of Baileys, a Springback, and 2 rum and pineapple drinks the morning after. And how!
