oops, rain
Oops. I did a bad and deleted a blog entry, so for those of you that missed the 9/6 - 9/7 matatu story, i apologize. It was called "me versus the matatu" and it chronicled my rides on the mini-van "taxis" that seat about 14 and drive like mad along the main roads in the city and how I couldn't figure out the mystery word to say when I wanted it to stop to let me off. I know that's a lame recap, so sorry, but I thought I'd at least try to put in some tidbits.
the first thing I woke up to was the sound of rain and utter gray darkness, though the sky did turn a teeny bit lighter gray about 6:45am, the time my snooze goes off. its still raining and i heard that its going to continue like this for quite a while. I normally love a good moody rain, but I won't be able to do many of my favorite "rain" things like curling up on the couch in my blanket (house couch very hard, not comfortable), cuddling with my dogs (dogs millions of miles away), and either reading a book (not enough light near the couch) or watching TV (no TV). I could try to do this in bed, but then the mosquitos would probably eat me alive. I've managed to get here just as the rainy season is starting to build, so I worry a little bit that I won't be able to see much of the sights outside the city due to the rain, and it seems a shame to be in Africa and not safari, touch the equator line, or see the source of the backwards flowing Nile. I know that at some point I'll be back but its a little disheartening to think I won't be able to do some of those things while I'm here the first time...

Hey Jen!! How are you?? I love your blog background. Sounds like you are having interesting adventures!! I can totally identify with a hard couch and no TV while it rains outside. haha, memories are coming back to me... Hey if you brought an umbrella and the rain isn't dangerous...adventure out chica! See what you want to see anyway...seeing it in the rain will make it that much more memorable! :)
